Willow Smith Is Blazin’ With Nicki Minaj On “Fireball”

Willow Smith and Nicki Minaj may be 18 years apart, but the two musicians have a lot in common. Both free spirits are obsessed with candy colored coifs, outlandish outfits and songs that refer to the mercury rising.

Last November, Nicki, 28, enlisted the help of fellow superstar rapper Kanye West to add some fire to her track “Blazin” off her debut album, Pink Friday, and now Willow is following suit. The 10-year-old, who made us whip our hair back and forth before she even hit double digits, has Nicki turning up the heat and spitting liquid-lava lyrics on her third single, “Fireball.” Nicki, who introduces her co-star as “Young Money,” quickly establishes that she’s got the young ingenue’s back. “Put you under my wing, I’m the top boss,” Nicki rhymes. “Ain’t from Louisiana but I’m hot sauce.”

The drum-heavy song shows the pint-sized diva singing with a full-size swagger that would make mama Jada and papa Will Smith proud. “Uhm, hello, can we get the party started,” Willow, the self-proclaimed “fireball of the party” sings at the beginning of the track. “Since I landed here, I gon’ phone up a Obama/ Shook the world up, now I caused a little drama/ Leader of the new school, and yes I’m gonna light up the block to the stage when I wanna.”

Since “Whip My Hair” went viral last year, Willow has yet to reclaim her leader of the pack status after her second single, “21st Century Girl” failed to make a real impact. Willow is currently hard at work on her debut album on Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation label according to the album’s producer Ronald “Jukebox” Jackson. “I did like eight, nine songs on Willow, so right now, we’re in the process of just trying to close out the album,” Ronald told MTV News. “Willow is kind of a combination of what ‘Whip My Hair’ was. Willow just isn’t a pop star, she isn’t just an urban artist; she’s very international. A lot of her music has a very big influence of everything from rock to pop to hip-hop, It’s just the whole process. You got to think about it: She’s a 10-year-old girl. She’s gotta have a life, she’s gotta be a kid.”
