Monterosso wins Dubai World Cup

DUBAI - Monterosso won the world’s most valuable race, the $10million Dubai World Cup, here on Saturday to give victory to the brainchild behind the race, his owner Shaikh Mohammed Al Maktoum’s Godolphin Operation.

The winner - third last year - came home clear under Mikael Barzalona ahead of another Godolphin runner Capponi while Planteur was third and hot favourite, the former Australian champion So You Think, was a disappointing fourth.

Barzalona, who rode Pour Moi to victory in last year’s Epsom Derby, produced his much criticised trademark celebration of standing up in the saddle 60 metres before the finish on the 20/1 Mahmood Al Zarooni-trained winner.

There was to be no fairytale finish to the week for American trainer Bob Baffert, who suffered a heart attack last Monday, as his Game On Dude, ridden by the first woman to ride in the race Chantal Sutherland, finished among the also rans.

MIXTAPE REVIEW: Wilson Wright "Victory Laps"

Once again from your ultimate source for indie hip hop culture, hot rap beats online and more, we bring you another mixtape review. Not only are we about providing hip hop instrumentals and rap beats for artists to buy online, we also continue to be an active member of the hip hop community and assist in giving artists the exposure they deserve.

Hot off the press and straight out of the DMV and Black Pilots League comes "Victory Laps" from Wilson Wright (@Wrighteouslife). This tape is 12 tracks of what I call easy listening hip hop. The beats are all original and this is highly commendable. Most of the beats are mid to slow tempo and have that really "chill" vibe. That being said, as a producer myself, my only constructive criticism would be that the beats are a sometimes a little too simple and the mixes lack that extra bump. That aside, the tape is still a very good listen.

Wright's wordplay is sprinkled with gems such as "I create the greatest discs somewhat like Krillin's hands" ( a reference to the classic anime Dragon Ball Z). The standout tracks on this tape, based on the impact of the beats and how they blend with the flows and the lyrics, are the title track "Victory Laps", "The Arrival", "Goodbye" (Ill soul sample!) and "CliffTops". The latter almost has an old Outkast vibe, which is a serious compliment to Wright and his production partner @Official_BigCAT. 

All in all Wright's laidback style and braggadocio wordplay are worth the listen and you can check it out here. Out of a possible 5 star rating, "Victory Laps" gets about a 3.8 mostly because the beats didn't bump as hard as one would like and the track "Goodbye" which has arguably the best vibe on the tape, was too short. Give it a download for the simple reason that Wright is a true MC.

BRAKING NEWS: Another Cruise Ship Disabled By Fire

Yet another cruise ship has disabled by a fire, this time in southern Philippine waters. The cruise ship has been adrift for the past 24 hours with 1,000 people on board. The power was recently restored on the ship and now they are slowly making their way to Malaysia, their original destination. Read more below

A cruise ship with 1,000 people on board that drifted in southern Philippine waters for 24 hours after being disabled by a fire was headed toward Malaysia after repairs, the Philippine coast guard said Saturday.

The Azamara Quest informed the coast guard late Saturday that its power and propulsion had been restored and it was moving slowly toward Sandakan, its next destination after it left Manila Thursday, spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Algier Ricafrente said.

Azamara Club Cruises, the ship’s operator, said in a statement Saturday night that the ship was sailing at 3 to 6 knots (5.6-11 kilometers or 3.5-6.9 miles per hour) and was expected to reach Sandakan “within 24 to 48 hours.”

It said company president Larry Pimentel will meet personally with the passengers and crew in Sandakan.

The company said the rest of the cruise would be canceled. It said it will fully refund the passengers as a “gesture of goodwill” and provide each guest with a future cruise certificate for the amount paid for the aborted voyage.

A coast guard vessel sent to assist the cruise liner reported that it had sighted the ship from about 9 kilometers (5 nautical miles) away and was approaching it.

The ship’s captain had earlier sent an email to the coast guard saying that it needed no assistance and that everything was “under control.”

The ship had been drifting since a fire broke out Friday night. The flames engulfed one of the ship’s engine rooms but were quickly extinguished, Azamara Club Cruises said. Five crew suffered smoke inhalation, including one who was seriously injured and needed hospital care.

It was the latest in a series of accidents hitting luxury cruise liners since January, when the Costa Concordia capsized off the coast of Italy, killing 32 people.

The Azamara Quest has 590 passengers and 411 crew members. Operator Azamara Club Cruises is part of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

The stricken ship drifted Saturday in the Sulu Sea about 130 kilometers (70 nautical miles) south of the Philippines’ Tubbataha Reef, Ricafrente said. The area lies between the Philippines and the island of Borneo, which is divided between Malaysia and Indonesia.

The vessel had left Hong Kong on Monday for what was supposed to be a 17-day Southeast Asian cruise. The ship made a port call in Manila and left for Sandakan on Thursday. It was scheduled to make several stops in Indonesia before arriving in Singapore on April 12.

The ship’s senior physician, Oliver Gilles, said that the crew member who was in serious condition suffered “prolonged heat and smoke exposure.”

There were no information about the nationalities of the passengers and crew. British media said they included Britons and Americans.

Ricafrente said that no distress call was received and there would be an investigation.

Engineers had earlier Saturday restored electricity in the ship to re-establish air conditioning, running water, plumbing, refrigeration and food preparation, the company said.

A month after 32 people died when the Costa Concordia ran aground and capsized off the western coast of Italy, a fire on the Costra Allegra left that ship without power and adrift in waters known to be prowled by pirates in the Indian Ocean for three days.

Both Costa ships are part of Costa Crociere, SpA, a subsidiary of Carnival Corp., the world’s largest cruise operator

Rihanna is reportedly in talks with Simmon Cowel, the producer of the X-Factor, to be the shows next judge.

According to reports, Rihanna replaces Britney Spears as the front runner for one of the vacant spot on the show after negotiations with Spears broke down.

If Rihanna signs the deal, she will reportedly rake in a whopping $20 million.

Roman Arkadyevich Abramovich is a Russian businessman and the main owner of the private investment company Millhouse LLC.

In 2003, Abramovich was named Person of the Year by Expert, a Russian business magazine. He shared this title with Mikhail Khodorkovsky. He is known outside Russia as the owner of Chelsea Football Club, an English Premier League football team, and for his wider involvement in European football.

Abramovich is currently the 9th richest person in Russia and the 68th richest person in the world, according to the 2012 Forbes list, with an estimated fortune of $12.1 billion.

The 44-year-old Russian paid £750million for Eclipse, which at 533ft in length is the world's biggest private yacht.
