WTF: Apple has more money than the U.S. government; coporate filings reveal $81.5 billion bank account [Details Inside]

The Daily News reports:

Apple revealed it has a staggering $81.5 billion in cash in the bank, according to reports.

That's more than more money than even the U.S. government has, documents show.

The tech giant disclosed parts of its 10K filing earlier this week, claiming it has 13.2 million square feet of building space,employs 60,400 full-time workers and made more than $37.5 billion in cash profits during the last fiscal year.

But Chief Executive Tim Cook said that money is not "burning a hole in his pocket" and that he wasn't going to do "silly things" with it.

Cook, who took over for Steve Jobs in August, told investors in a call Wednesday he was in no hurry to decide what his company will do with the money.

Samuel L. Jackson Makes Guinness Book of World Records As Highest Grossing Actor Of All Time With $7.4 Billion Earned At The Box Office

Just call him the $7.4 billion dollar man.


Actor Samuel L. Jackson has been declared the highest grossing actor of all time by the Guinness Book of World Records.


Jackson has starred in some of Hollywood's biggest blockbuster films in his 20 plus year career.


Jurassic Park ($914 million), Pulp Fiction ($212 million) and the Star Wars prequels ($2.4 billion) are among his top earners according to the Chicago Tribune.


In all, Jackson's films have raked in a staggering $7.4 billion dollars, and that figure will continue to rise because the man simply never stops working. He averages four films a year. He's made more than 100 films since his 1989 debut in Harold Becker's Sea of Love, where he was billed as simply the "black man."


In 2012 the actor will star as Nick Fury in the highly anticipated movie, The Avengers. That film is expected to do huge box office numbers as well.


Somewhere Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Arnold Schwarzenegger are scratching their heads wondering what just happened.

Boxing: Floyd Mayweather To Stand Trial in Harassment Case

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is scheduled to stand trial Wednesday before a judge on misdemeanor charges that the boxer threatened two homeowner association security guards in October 2010 in front of his home in a gated community outside Las Vegas.

Mayweather has pleaded not guilty, and the trial could take most of the morning before Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Diana Sullivan.

The judge could immediately decide guilt or innocence or wait to issue a ruling, prosecutor Roy Nelson said. Nelson and Mayweather lawyer Karen Winckler confirmed Tuesday that the trial was scheduled Wednesday.

Mayweather could face up to a year in jail and $2,000 in fines if he is found guilty of both harassment charges against him.

Homeowner association security guards Aaron Ryan and Miguel Burgos accuse the 5-foot-8 welterweight of threatening them after they ticketed several of Mayweather’s vehicles parked near his house in violation of association rules, according to a Las Vegas police report.

Ryan and Burgos didn’t immediately press criminal charges. They later provided recorded interviews to police during which they said Mayweather berated them for touching his cars, told them he had pending gun charges, removed a ticket from one of his cars and put it on their security patrol vehicle, and told them, “my homies have guns, if you want me to call them they’d come over here and take care of you.”

Ryan told police he interpreted Mayweather’s reference to friends with guns as a threat on his life.

Mayweather declined to provide a statement to police about the encounter.

Authorities later said Mayweather does not have gun charges pending against him.

The undefeated prizefighter also is scheduled to stand trial Nov. 4 on an unrelated misdemeanor battery complaint alleging he poked another homeowner association security guard in the face during a separate argument over parking tickets in November. He has pleaded not guilty.

Mayweather also is to appear Dec. 21 at an evidence hearing on more serious felony charges stemming from a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend and two of their children in October 2010 at the woman’s home. Mayweather could face 34 years in prison if convicted in that case.

His lawyers have denied wrongdoing on his behalf.

Mayweather is 42-0 in his professional boxing career, with 26 knockouts.

The bizarre experiment, carried out by Paul Moran, 30, caused around £3,000 worth of damage to his Housing Executive home in a block of flats at Derrin Park in Enniskillen in July.

Upon his release he will spend a further 12 months on licence.

Moran admitted arson and endangering the lives of others.

His Honour Judge McFarland told him: “Rather bizarrely you were attempting to make gold from human faeces and waste products.

“It was an interesting experiment to fulfil the alchemist’s dream, but wasn’t going to succeed.”

While outlining the circumstances of the case at Enniskillen Magistrates Court, prosecuting counsel Robin Steer, told those present that at 7.12pm on July 24 last year the Fire Brigade was called to Moran’s flat at Derrin Park in Cornagrade, Enniskillen.

A police officer who was at the scene overheard Moran tell someone he had put “fertiliser” on a heater.

Moran’s barrister, Des Fahy, agreed that the general circumstances of the case were bizarre. He said Moran was a man of considerable intellectual ability but there was a clear problem over the years relating to drug abuse.

The judge noted that Moran was now on anti-psychotic medication and agreed with the findings of a pre-sentence report, which said he did not pose “a significant risk of serious harm”.
