Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen’s $39,000 Alligator Backpack By The Row Sells Out In Stores!

Have an extra $39,000 lying around underneath your bedroom mattress perhaps? Just in case you were hoping to snag this season’s hottest backpack, you are out of luck. The Row‘s Alligator Backpack, designed by those adorable-but-all-grown-up twins, Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen of 90s sitcom Full House, is sold out!

“It was the first thing that sold off the shelf,” Ashley, 25,  said who was most recently seen carrying the bag at Kanye West’s runway show in Paris. “During our last economic crisis in the U.S., the only thing that went up was Hermes.” The Row’s Alligator Backpack is the collection’s most expensive item and is priced higher than the average Hermès Birkin bag. But despite its hefty price tag, the bag was pre-ordered by the masses at Barney‘s and was a hot item before it ever even hit the shelves.

“I think if you were ever going to spend $39,000 on a bag, that’s the bag you should buy because I think you’d wear it for a really long time,’ she told the site,” Barney’s Fashion Director Amanda Brooks told Fashionista. “There’s enough design to make it interesting and beautiful but they truly are classic bags—and I think you also might be the only one who has it.’

Anderson Cooper put the Olsen bag on the “RidicuList” during his show Anderson Cooper 360 for it’s crazy price tag and for costing more than the starting salary of most teachers. Listen to the CNN news anchor discuss the bag below and find a hilarious alternative for only $32.99.
